How to Become Digital Citizens!

What is digital citizenship?

Digital Citizenship are the norms and rules we follow to act appropriately when using technology.

 

Why is it important for our students?

Parents and educators can never fully control the technology use of our students. That is why it is important to teach digital citizenship at an early age. You can find lessons and games that will help you and your students understand the importance of topics like online safety, privacy, digital footprints, and respect for other online users in the links below.

 

Other important terms to know.......

Netiquette - the rules of etiquette that apply when communicating over computer networks, especially the Internet.

 

Copyright the exclusive right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc.

Plagiarism - an act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author

Fair Use - a legal doctrine that portions of copyrighted materials may be used without permission of the copyright owner provided the use is fair and reasonable, does not substantially impair the value of the materials, and does not curtail the profits reasonably expected by the owner.
